This page details all known vehicles owned by Tours, Douglas. The original company of that name was registered in 1964 by J. F. Edmonds, although it had been in use as a fleetname since 1961 on a fleet taken over by Mr. Edmonds in that year. Starting by taking over the ten coaches owned by Collister's Garage Ltd., Tours took over three more operators in 1964 (Ransons), 1966 (Broadway) and 1968 (Farghers), these initially operating as wholly owned subsidiaries of Tours, until being absorbed into the main fleet in 1972. Duggan's Motors was next to join the Tours family, being taken over in 1972. At this stage Tours Ltd. was acquired jointly by Isle of Man Road Services and Corkill's Garage in Onchan, followed by a reverse takeover where the Corkill fleet (and its Hamill Garage Ltd. subsidiary) was absorbed into the Tours fleet. The IoMRS involvement in Tours, and in coaches in general, was shortlived, with their coaches becoming Tours property in 1973. Next into the melting pot were Crennels of Ramsey and W. H. Shimmin of Douglas, both in 1972, followed by J. G. Downward Ltd. in 1973.

Fleet renewal continued on a piecemeal basis each year therafter, mostly favouring Plaxton and Duple bodied Bedfords of various styles and sizes, with only a handful of Ford Transit minibuses breaking the Luton manufacturer's monopoly on the island. In April 1983, all licences held by Tours Ltd. were transferred to a new company, Tours IOM (1983) Ltd., which was to run the business for a further 20 years. 1986 saw the end of Bedford coach/bus chassis production, and gradually fleet renewal began to move towards other makes, as supplies of used Bedfords dried up. An unusual development in 1989 was the purchase of three double deck coaches (MCW, Neoplan and Van Hool), all of which only saw one season's service. The last two modern Bedfords arrived in November 2001, one lasting till 2009, the other having gone three years earlier. The final operator to be taken over was the three vehicle Western Tours fleet, in Peel, bringing the only ever Duple Dominant bodied Leyland Leopard (also the sole 11 metre example) into the fold.

In 2003 Tours was acquired by BusCor (Pty) Ltd., a South African based transport group and was renamed Protours Ltd., taking over 34 vehicles at the time. BusCor sold their Manx subsidiary back to a local management team in January 2012, by which time the fleet stood at 26. That total included two heritage Bedford OBs, which although a once common sight on the island, had never previously been part of the Tours fleet in its various forms. A further oldie owned was a Plaxton bodied Bedford VAL, with all three later being sold off the island for preservation. The data on this page has taken a lot of research and therefore may be subject to some unintentional errors. Please let me know if you discover any.
